Defence Minister Joseph Beti Assomo says the soldiers who brutalised a suspected ambazonian leader will be sanctioned.

Cameroon's Minister of Defence Joseph Beti Assomo has for the first time acknowledged military brutality on separatists, and has said the gendarmes who rough handled and tied up the alleged separatist leader will be sanctioned.

In a Press Release of yesterday Tuesday May 15th 2018, the Minister said the man known as Alphonse alias General was apprehended for violence against civilians and killing of forces.

In a heart breaking video that went viral all week end, the alleged separatist leader was arrested and tortured by the Cameroon military.

According to the Minister, the gendarmes 'went out of the normal standards in such situations'.

"An investigation has been opened to identify the appropriate sanction to be given to the perpetrators of this crime, who aced against the respect of human rights". The Minister said.

This is the very first time that the military is acknowledging the exaggeration of its forces deployed to the two English speaking regions since the start of the anglophone crisis in October 2016.
