CAF Awards: Christian Bassogog, Fabrice Ondoa, Vincent Aboubakar Nominated For African Player Of The Year

Christian Bassogog, Fabrice Ondoa and Vincent Aboubakar have been nominated for the 2017 CAF Awards, African Player of the year.
Bassogog began his career in Cameroon at second division side Rainbow FC, graduating from the youth system. On 29 April 2015, he joined the United Soccer League club Wilmington Hammerheads. Christian played 16 games and made two assists for the American club before he moved to the Danish club AaB. On August 28, he signed a four-year contract with his new club.

On 11 February 2016, in the Danish Superliga winter break, Bassogog was chosen to play the forward-position in a friendly match against FC Sioni Bolnisi from Georgia. He scored two goals in the match, and former head coach Lars Søndergaard talked afterwards about, that Bassogog in the future could be used on the forward-position instead of the wing.
On 29 February 2016, he got his debut in the Danish Superliga against FC Midtjylland. He came on the pitch with 10 minutes left.
Following a string of impressive performances for Cameroon at the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, AaB sporting Director Allan Gaarde commented that Bassogog was the subject of multiple queries regarding potential moves away from AaB in the 2017 January transfer window.

On 19 February 2017, AaB officially announced his departure  for a reported fee of 45 million Danish kroner (approx. £5 million) to join the Chinese side Henan Jianye FC
This was a recording-breaking transfer fee for AaB, surpassing that of Jesper Grønkjær when he signed for the Dutch club Ajax Amsterdam for £3.5 million in October 1997.
Christian Bassogog had a stellar Africa Cup of Nations 2017, scoring once en route to their victory, and was named as the Best Player at AFCON 2017.

Fabrice Ondoa joined FC Barcelona in 2009, at the age of 13, after starting it out at Samuel Eto'o Foundation.  He progressed through the club's youth system, and renewed his link with the Catalans until 2017 in 2014
In June 2014, he was promoted to the reserves in Segunda División. However, he was only used as a backup to Adrián Ortolá during the campaign.
On 7 January 2016, Ondoa signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with Gimnàstic de Tarragona also in the second level, after rescinding his link with Barça. He was assigned to their farm team, CF Pobla de Mafumet of the third division, and made his senior club debut three days later in a 3–2 loss at CF Reus Deportiu.
On 17 August 2016, Ondoa was loaned to fellow second tier club Sevilla Atlético, for one year.  Second choice to Churripi, he made his professional club debut on 18 March 2017 in a 2–1 win at Real Zaragoza, in which he was punished for time wasting by conceding a free kick in the penalty area from which Edu García scored; with two minutes remaining he was sent off for a foul with all substitutions having been made, and debutant defender José María Amo had to replace him in goal.
On 11 May 2017, Ondoa signed for the Andalusians until 2020, as the club exercised his buyout clause.
On 24 August 2014, Ondoa was called up to Cameroon for the matches against DR Congo and the Ivory Coast.  Thirteen days later he made his international debut, starting in a 2–0 win against the former,  and being later praised by manager Volker Finke.
Ondoa and Barcelona teammate Macky Bagnack were included in the 23-man squad for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations. He played all three of their matches at the tournament in Equatorial Guinea, as they came last in their group.
At the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon, Ondoa was again the undisputed goalkeeper for the Indomitable Lions. He was man of the match in their quarter-final win over Senegal, in which he saved the decisive attempt from Sadio Mané in the penalty shootout.
Cameroon won the title with a 2–1 victory over Egypt in the final, and he was elected into the Team of the Tournament.
Vincent Aboubakar began his career with Cotonsport Garoua. In the 2009–10 season, he was promoted to the club's senior team in the Elite One league.
On 26 May 2010, Aboubakar signed with Valenciennes FC in France. He was assigned the number 9 shirt and made his debut in the club's opening league match of the season against Nice appearing as a substitute. He scored his first goal and hat-trick against Boulogne in Coupe de la Ligue.
In 2009 Aboubakar scored 2 goals in the Final of the U-18 World Cup with Cameroon.
Aboubakar signed for Lorient on a free transfer on 1 July 2013. Signed for Porto on 24 August 2014, signing a four-year contract for a fee of €3m, equivalent to 30% of his economic rights. He scored a late equalising goal in the Champions League on 10 December 2014 in a 1–1 draw with Shakhtar Donetsk.
On 27 August 2016, Super Lig club Beşiktaş signed him on a season-long loan. He finished the season scoring 12 goals in 27 league appearances
In the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations, Aboubakar scored an 88th-minute goal in the final to hand Cameroon a comeback 2–1 victory against Egypt to end his nation's 15-year wait for a continental crown.
