Common Law Lawyers Change Stance, After Minister Laurent Esso's Last Week Declarations

The Common Law Lawyers, who have deserted their court rooms in the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon for almost six months now, have applauded Government's measures to restore SANITY in the Anglophone Court Rooms and Its Practices.

However, the men and women in black robes and white wigs say they can only go back to work, only after President Biya has put Minister Laurent Esso's recent declarations in the form of a Presidential Decree with ' immediate effect'.

Local media houses have been analysing the reactions of the lawyers, and Eden Newspaper reports that the Lawyers are demanding amongst others; the release of their colleagues and arrested Anglophones, redeployment of Civil Law magistrates, reconnection of Internet in the two English Speaking regions, implementation of resolutions of Prime Ministers Ad Hoc Commission and assurance of no further arrest.

On its part, the Post Newspaper reports that the lawyers say littering all State Universities with Common Law departments makes no sense.

The lawyers also rejected the merging of Political Sciences and Law under on faculty according to the new plan.

The bottom line is, with this giant step taken by government, will they cajole the Common Law Lawyers by completely bowing to their every request, or will they force them back into their black robes with slices of bread to chew for another decade, while endlessly waiting for a fresh Coke to take it down their throats?
