Brussels Scandal aka Bruxellegate : Oyono Bitolo Buys His Head With A National Apology
The Cameroon government and the Cameroon Football governing body are still to digest the shame of last week's incident termed 'Bruxellegate', where the Indomitable Lions were taken hostage by the hotel management they were lodging in, for failing to pay for their accommodation and feeding expenses.

The next day after the scandal Striker Ambroise Oyono Bitolo raised a cry for help, where he said he had been abandoned to himself by FECAFOOT, as he had no return ticket to Montreal from Belgium.

The ugly incident saw members of the technical and administrative team of the Indomitable Lion appear before a court made up of senior military officer, with Minister Pierre Ismael Bidoung Mpkatt as President of the jury.

Among those summoned to this hearing was Head Coach Hugo Bross, FECAFOOT's President Tombi A Roko, and a host of others.

The outcome of this hearing/investigation, began giving sleepless night to those concerned, when it was announced that the Team Press Officer for the Indomitable Lion Vincent De Paul Atangana was sacked. He was accused of assisting Head Coach Hugo Bross in his press outing during the Bruxellegate period, in which Bross declared that he and his boys were denied lunch by the hotel management, before the match with Guinea, that saw Guinea trashed them 2 goals to 0.

The first sanction sent a wave of panic, and rumours had it that the main culprits took to intimidating scapegoats like Oyongo Bitolo, forcing to go public and make open confessions, or lose his place in the Lion's den.

The Defense guy accepted the deal to save his head, and went public on a Canadian based radio station, where he said he had a misunderstanding with FECAFOOT, thus, carrying the heavy cross of FECAFOOT's administrative incompetency on his innocent shoulders.

"I had a misunderstanding with the Federation concerning my return ticket. Well, what has happened has happened. I arrived with a bit late in Montreal, but all that is in the past now, and what is important now is the Club. For now, let's keep the Cameroon team aside. We will continue to work for a great season, and bring and impact towards the trophy". Oyongo explained over Canadian radio.

Talking about the reason for his raising the distress call in Belgium, Oyongo said: " The flight was to be shifted in the afternoon, but due to the fact that there was just one flight from Brussels to Montreal, that had already left in the morning, I couldn't get a solution for that, because I arrived a little bit late. Since I had not had my return ticket up to a certain hour, I felt abandoned. But later, the situation was resolved, thanks to my club who bought me a ticket".

His explanations was clear enough to understand that he missed his flight of March 29th, because he had no return ticket that day.

But His declarations were still implicating and pointing towards the issue of incompetency at FECAFOOT, and apparently, he was forced to do an apologetic video, where he said he was sorry and asked for forgiveness.

"Good-morning family, good-morning to the Cameroonian people, good-morning to all footballers.

I wish to express my deepest regret  through this video on the situation of March 29th in Brussels concerning my flight ticket. My declarations might have hurt the pride of many people, and I realized that it was unfounded. I misbehaved. I ask FORGIVENESS for that.

In a letter that I have sent to the Cameroon Government, and the Cameroon Football Federation FECAFOOT, I acknowledged my mistake and promise to be more professional and also to continue to work hard to defend the colours of my country with honour and bravery.

I love you from the bottom of my heart, and I am proud to be a Cameroonian. I love you".
