Cameroon - Operation Sparrow Hawk - Polycarp Abah Abah bags another 20 years imprisonment to total his jail term to 51 years

Former Minister of Economic and Finance - Polycarp Abah Abah

Polycarp Abah Abah, former Cameroon's Director of Taxes and former Minister of Economy and Finance has been given another 20 years imprisonment for the embezzlement of more than 1 Billion F CFA.

This judgement is for the case of  Abah Abah against the State, and one Peter William Mandjo and Daniel Dikanda Batock, which started since the year 2000.

On the 28 of  April 2000,   Polycarp Abah Abah, then Director of Taxes  was representing the  Minister of Economy and Finance in the Value Added Tax Refund ceremony. During the ceremony Abah Abah discovered that  the Checks to be distributed to beneficiaries were from the Checkbook of his personal account. 50 Checks had already been erroneously filled from his personal check booklet instead of the States Checkbook entitled "VAT Refund", domiciliated at the Commercial Bank of Cameroon - CBC.

The ceremony was suspended, and Abah Abah notified the bank, opposing  payments of the said checks.

The CBC bank however proceeded with the payment, ignoring his instructions. Peter William Mandjo and Batock Dikanda took Abah Abah to court, accusing him of transferring the sum of 1 158 352 393 F CFA(One Billion, One Hundred and Fifty Eight Million, Three Hundred and Fifty Two Thousand, Three Hundred and Ninety Three Francs) from the account of the Ministry of Finance to that of the Department of taxes, were the money later disappeared into thin air.

Arrested in 2008 for the embezzlement of 4.6 Billion F CFA, Polycarp Abah Abah succeeded in escaping from the Kondengui prison, while investigations were still going but he was rearrested by the police, and sentenced to 6 years imprisonment for on June 12 2012 for "Attempted Escape".

His initial trial for the embezzlement of 4.6 Billion F CFA continued until 13th January 2015, when the court found him guilty and slammed him with another  25 years jail sentence, making a total of 31 years, plus the judgement of yesterday that gave him 20 years, adding up his total jail term to 51 years.
